On Friday (May 20, 2010), two selected students who will represent our school for the Solar Boat Competition together with The Science Society held a meeting. The meeting was held at the school canteen from 2 to 4 p.m. The agenda of the meeting was to discuss about the process of making a solar boat. A polystyrene which was wrapped with plastic was used to make the skeleton of the solar boat. Meanwhile, the mast was made by using a wire.
We used only two solar panels to ease the boat movement. We will create a 350 mm boat which will have less friction, so that the boat will move smoothly. Hence, students were asked to bring polystyrenes and bottles on Monday. Apart from that, students were requested to make their own model.
Student that will be going to Ma’a Daerah, Terengganu are:

On May 19, 2010, two SMK Bangsar teachers who were Mrs. Zailani and Miss Shazlin Suhailah attended a briefing regarding Solar Boat Race organized by BP MyScience Challenge. The briefing, which was from 10 to 12 p.m was held at Puduraya Girl School, Jalan Foss. There were also participations from other schools in relation with BP MyScience Project. The schools were SMK Sri Pantai, Puduraya Girl School, SMK Maxwell and SMK Taman Melati.
Four students who involved in the Solar Boat Race together with two teachers went to Puduraya Girl School. We departed at 9 a.m. From the school compound, we walked until we reached Bangsar LRT Station and we bought tickets to Masjid Jamek Station.
After we reached Masjid Jamek, we took two taxis, a teacher and two students for each taxi. We arrived at the girl school at 10 a.m. Firstly, we were requested to fill in the registration form and then we were told to take our seats. The briefing was conducted by two spokespersons from BP who were Mr. Ahmadi and Mr. Zulkifli. We paid full attention and jotted down every detail presented in the breifing.
During the briefing, we were informed about the terms and regulations which we must obey. We were required to create a mascot and a power point presentation. All of these projects had to be completed within two months. To spice up the programme at the school level, various competitions were organized by 4 students such as Essay Writing (English and Malay language), Carbon Challenge, Trading Game and Sembang Sains. Meanwhile, in disseminating information regarding the progress of the programme, we were requested to make a bulletin board in relation with BP MyScience school activities. This bulletin board was utilized to display all the informations and activities. It is hoped that we could share as much information as possible with all SMK Bangsar students.
By the end of the briefing, three solar kits and RM500 were given by the organizer to every participating school. To gather more ideas in designing the boat, we took several pictures of the models. Such pictures were intended for our future references. After half a day being attentive in the briefing, we had our lunch at 12 p.m. We departed at 12:30 p.m and reached the school compound at 1 o’clock in the afternoon.
